PHOTOS FROM FRIDAY'S WALK

Huge thanks to Kate Anthony, Martin Toal, Scott Wright and Darren Proctor for their support (costumes courtesy of the Manchester Day Parade, and artist Helen Davies)

Thanks so much to everyone for taking part in our fourth Manchester Midnight Walk for St Ann's Hospice. It was huge!!! And we have had amazing feedback from walkers.

So much hard work went into organising the event and we couldn't have pulled it off without everyone's help and support. THANK YOU.

Since the first walk in 2007 nearly 10,000 walkers have taken part in our biggest ever fundraising event. And altogether, once all the sponsorship money starts rolling in, we hope to reach the magic £750,000 raised after all costs since the first walk!!!

Don't forget to send your sponsorship money in as soon as possible so that we can reach our target! Every penny raised helps us to meet the £16,000 a day we have to raise to keep St Ann's Hospice running.

We will shortly be adding a film of the night onto our website and a link to the Granada Reports news item that went out the day after the walk. In the meantime, here are the first few photos we have received. If you would like to send your photos to us for us to include, please send them to Jenny Watts at jwatts@sah.org.uk.

OUR STARS ON FRIDAY NIGHT

Generic_walkers_3

Thank you to all of our stars for joining us for the fourth annual Manchester Midnight Walk this Friday!

It's been an action packed build up with celebrities including Tess Daly, Alesha Dixon and Alexandra Burke each designing a one off pair of Star Shoes for the walk, a 10 year old girl, too young to take part, organising her own walk to raise funds and a team of solicitors from Addleshaw Goddard being put through their paces by British Military Fitness in preparation.

All activity has been leading up to Friday, when over 3,000 walkers will set off on the stroke of midnight from Manchester Central in a fun-filled night to remember in support of St Ann's Hospice.

At the heart of the walk is the Wall of Hope for those walkers who choose to leave a special message in memory of a loved one, which will then be displayed on a big screen on the night. Walkers will also have the chance to light a candle for a loved one in the special Remembrance Garden at Spinningfields.

Doors will open at 9.30pm and the night will kick off in style in Manchester Central at 10pm with entertainment from local music group Mike Tongue and the Grooves and England's winning tenor and patron of St Ann's Martin Toal, who will be singing a stirring rendition of Nessun Dorma alongside some other operatic favourites.

If you're feeling the need to limber up before you set off then there will be an energetic warm-up session with personal trainer to the stars, Scott Wright who will be supported by the Sporting Dynamic Cheerleaders.St Ann's Hospice patron and Coronation Street Star Kate Anthony (Auntie Pam) will be leading the walkers.

PARADING THROUGH THE CITY THANKING PUBLIC FOR HOSPICE SUPPORT

The Manchester Midnight Walk, representing St Ann's Hospice, was thrilled to be part of the city's first ever Manchester Day Parade on Sunday 20 June.

Thousands of people lined Manchester's streets to watch the first ever parade for Manchester.

About 75,000 turned up to watch a giant peacock, robots, aliens, astronauts, Star Wars and Wizard of Oz characters snaking through the city centre.

More than 1,800 people entertained the crowds dressed in spectacular costumes for the "out of this world" theme and the Manchester Midnight Walk joined the 'In The Night Sky' section to say thank you to all our star walkers and supporters who keep St Ann's Hospice running.

Councillor Pat Karney said: "This was the best parade Manchester has ever seen." He added it was "a world-beater up there with New York, Sydney and Rio."

Check out the hospice pictures below.

ONE OF OUR MIDNIGHT WALKERS LOST 12 STONE!

Chat_27

Helen in Chat Magazine recently
Helen Whittaker spent 20 years as a size 30. At just 5 ft tall her doctor told her she had to lose weight or she would only live for another 5 years.

Helen joined Slimming World and over the next 2 and a half years she lost 12 stone and went down 9 dress sizes! She began to exercise and is now a personal trainer.

On 2 July she is taking part in the Manchester Midnight Walk with over 100 people and talks about the walk as a 'win-win' - raising money for a great cause and getting fitter too.

With just one week to go before registrations close on 18 July why don't you walk your way to fitness on 2 July with thousands of others and have lots of fun at the same time?

Registrations close on 18th June, so sign up now to make sure you and your friends don’t miss out on one of the most unforgettable nights of the year!

The fun will begin at 10pm at Manchester Central with a number of live performances. The celebrity’s one off designs will be on display at Manchester’s Triangle Shopping Centre in the build up to the walk (thanks John Lewis visual display team for your help!), so you can get some inspiration before designing your own perfect pumps!
